OUR TESTING SO FAR

HOW WE TEST KYLA.

What we have measured ourselves, what we have not, and how.

At a glance

Median · 19 athletes

31%

Deeper HRR (heart-rate recovery) between efforts.

We collect data from our athletes all the time. KYLA has not launched yet, so the data is still limited. An independent study starts January 2027. Not yet statistically significant.

01The question

Does using KYLA in the rest between repeated efforts produce measurable improvements in HRR, fatigue accumulation and sustainable output across a session?

02What we found

HEART RATE

MEASURED

Median · 19 athletes

31%

Deeper HRR between efforts at matched workload.

HRR is how far your heart rate falls in the rest after an effort. Deeper means it falls further.

0%25%50%75%median 31%81% · example below

Half of the 19 athletes improved more than 31%, half less.

Example · one athlete · our clearest result

Most athletes changed less. The median is 31%.

81%Deeper HRR on the day with KYLA. 49 bpm per rest against 27 without.

One interval session on each day, nine rests in each. KYLA in every rest on one day, none on the other. The curve is all nine rests laid on top of each other and averaged.

How we tested this

Same pace and output, with and without KYLA. The protocol varied by athlete. The example is read from screenshots of the athlete's heart-rate app.

LACTATE

EARLY

Median · 3 athletes

18%

Lower blood lactate at matched pace.

Range 10 to 25%. Treadmill threshold sessions, each against their own baseline. Three athletes is too few to draw conclusions.

  • Every athlete who completes a protocol is counted, zero and negative results included.

03Not measured yet

Not measured yet

  • A placebo-controlled trial
  • Core temperature, directly
  • Effects beyond four weeks
  • Extreme heat or cold
  • Other disciplines
  • Output, directly. Estimated so far, 14 athletes.

Coming next

  • Independent university study, January 2027
  • Direct power and pace
  • Heart rate at the same load and drift, once the data is checked.
  • More athletes, with KYLA in alternating rests
  • Lactate repeated per athlete

04How we test

Three protocols, each designed to rule out a different source of error.

Protocol 01

Within-session counterbalanced.

Every second rest uses KYLA. Alternating rests within a single session. Controls for warm-up effect and accumulated fatigue, because KYLA and non-KYLA rests are interleaved.

Protocol 02

Between-session A/B.

Same athlete, same protocol, one week apart. One session without KYLA, one session with. Controls for individual variation and pacing strategy.

Protocol 03

Longitudinal in-training.

Trained athletes use KYLA across multiple weeks in their normal training, comparing against their established personal baseline. Shows whether the effect lasts beyond the first sessions.

Workload is held constant where possible (SkiErg pace, treadmill speed and gradient). Heart rate is recorded continuously. Lactate is measured by finger-prick sample at standardised timing. Perceived effort is captured on the standard Borg scale.

05Who uses it

70

elite athletes have trained with KYLA since September 2026.

They come from F1, tennis, HYROX, CrossFit, endurance and many other sports. We collect their data continuously. The numbers above come from the athletes who have sent us measurements so far.

This page is updated as testing expands. Last updated: 15 October 2026. For questions, requests for raw data, or partnership enquiries: hello@getkyla.com
