Palm cooling

KYLA Performance™

Sold out
Price£255.00
One-time investment, for the pairTwo handles, one for each hand. No batteries. No refills. No subscription. You chill it in a fridge between sessions. Buy it once and own it for years.

Heat drops your output before your muscles do. KYLA pulls it out through your palms in the rest between efforts.

KYLA does not make you fitter. It lets you do more work. More work is what makes you fitter.

The numbers, and how we got them

Where these numbers come from

Recovery

Median 31%

deeper heart rate recovery between efforts

Our testing · n = 19 athletes

Measured from heart-rate data athletes recorded in their own training, comparing the same sessions with and without KYLA at the same pace and workload.

Fatigue

Median 18%

lower blood lactate at matched pace

Our testing · n = 3 athletes · range 10 to 25%

An early signal, not a finished result. Blood lactate is the marker that rises as an effort gets harder, so less of it at the same pace means the same work cost less. Athletes sampling their own, each against his own baseline as control. Three so far. We are testing this at scale.

Output

Average 8.5%

higher output across repeated efforts

Our testing · n = 14 athletes · range 5 to 12%

The average across fourteen athletes, range 5 to 12%. Each was compared against his own unaided sessions at matched pace. The study with Umeå University will test it directly.

These come from our own testing, not from published research, and none of them is a guarantee. What you get depends on you.

How KYLA compares

Most cooling methods cool your skin. Only a few cool your core.

Each method shown the way it is actually used, measured against the same job: moving heat out of your core between efforts.

  • KYLA PerformancePalm contact, 14 °C surface, 60 s per cycle
  • Cooling vestPCM 15 to 20 °C, worn continuously
  • Ice bag in the palmRight surface, too cold. It closes the vessels that move the heat
  • Ice bag on the neckFeels cold, moves little heat

Minute for minute

How long other methods would need to move the same core heat KYLA moves in one minute, in our heat-transfer model, at equal contact time. Lower is better.

  • KYLA 1 min
  • Cooling vest ~6 min
  • Ice bag in the palm ~6 min
  • Ice bag on the neck ~13 min

At equal contact time.

Modelled from first-principles thermodynamics over a 60-minute session, fifteen cycles of three minutes work and one minute cooling, at 25 °C ambient. Each method is shown as it is actually used, so contact times differ by design. ±20% uncertainty band.

What the athletes noticed

Athletes ranging from F1 and IndyCar to tennis, HYROX, CrossFit and endurance. Here are some of them in their own words.

They were invited to test a pre-production run, with no payment and no agreement of any kind.

01 WHO IT'S FOR

Where it fits in your training.

Chill it before the session. In the roxzone between stations, and between metcon rounds, hold one in each palm for the minute you already rest. Race day and training day work the same way.

Between sets, where you would normally scroll or pace: one unit in each palm for 60 to 90 seconds. Put them down, lift. The late sets stay closer to the first. Cim Johansson, Sweden's Strongest Man and Rogue Axle world record holder, trains this way.

Interval and threshold days: hold it through each recovery jog or standing rest. On longer efforts, use the natural breaks. The same pace should cost less late in the session.

Points are too short to cool. Changeovers are not. Hold it between games and at side changes, and start the next game cooler. Simon Vasquez, Swedish national padel player, does exactly this.

Mostly pre-cooling. Palms on the units in the minutes before the start, then again between stints while the car is worked on. Marcus Ericsson, Indy 500 champion, and Dino Beganovic, Ferrari Academy driver, use it this way.

Shifts, substitutions, halftime. Hold one in each palm on the bench and start the next shift cooler. Built for the stop-start rhythm of hockey, football, and handball.

KYLA fits inside training, not after it. It does not add a step, it uses one you already take. The only thing to remember is the night before: the pair goes in the fridge. And heat doesn't care what level you're at: if your session has hard efforts and short rests, this works the same way.

02 THE RESEARCH

PALM COOLING IS NOT NEW. THE EVIDENCE IS NOT OURS.

Independent research from sports science institutions, none of it funded by us. Results vary, and some found no effect. Those are on the studies page too.

+22% more lifting volume than no cooling, and 15% more than a convincing sham. Wang et al., 2026 · placebo-controlled crossover · Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research
+26% more bench-press volume, at a lower perceived effort. Kwon et al., 2010 · Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise
3.6× more heat removed than cooling the neck, groin and armpits combined. Resting alone sheds 0.12 °C per 10 minutes. Cold packs on those sites added 0.05 °C on top. Cold packs on the palms and other glabrous skin added 0.18 °C. Lissoway et al., 2015 · Stanford University · randomised controlled trial
~6.7% average performance gain across cooling studies to date. Effect size 0.43. Bongers et al., 2014 · meta-analysis

We have not found a palm cooling system that removes more heat per rest period than KYLA. If you know one, tell us. We will test it and publish what we find.

We built KYLA for effect, not endurance. The core is sized for a session, not a day: about 35 to 40 minutes of contact, which is more than a two-hour workout uses, because you only hold it during the rests. Pulling heat this fast is what empties it, and we would rather empty it than hold back.

LIMITS

WHAT IT WILL NOT DO.

It does not make you fitter.

It changes how hard you can keep pushing across a session, and pushing is where the adaptation comes from. The work it adds lands at the end, in the sets you would otherwise have cut short, which is where most of the adaptation signal sits. The training still has to happen.

It is not a substitute for water or for pacing.

Heat is one input. Hydration, sleep and how hard you went out are the others.

The harder the session and the warmer the room, the more heat there is to take away.

In a cold gym at an easy pace, there is less for it to do.

It needs a free hand.

You hold it, so it works whenever a hand is free: between sets, between rounds, between stations, walking to the next one. If your session never leaves a hand free, it is harder to fit in.

The evidence is about the mechanism, not about this object.

Palm cooling has been studied for twenty years. KYLA Performance has not been through a trial of its own yet. The studies are underway and we will publish what they say, including if they say nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about KYLA Performance. For more, see the full FAQ.

Why does KYLA Performance cost what it does?

You buy it once. There are no refills, no cartridges, no batteries and nothing to subscribe to, so after the purchase the only running cost is the fridge space it takes up overnight.

The price reflects a first production run built in small numbers, and a unit that has to keep working through years of sessions rather than one season. Prices differ by market because of local tax, duty and shipping, so the figure you see on this page is the one for your market.

If it does not earn its place in your training, send it back within 90 days of delivery for a full refund.

How do I prepare it before training?

Place KYLA Performance in the refrigerator the night before, or a minimum of five hours before use. The freezer is faster if you are short on time, but it overshoots, so let the pair come up a little before you train. Too cold is not better. Once pre-cooled, a unit stays effective for 7+ hours in the carry bag.

How long does a single pre-cool last during a session?

A fully pre-cooled unit delivers 35 to 40 minutes of effective heat extraction during active use, depending on training intensity. Across a two-hour session, that works out to roughly twenty minutes of use per hour, typically enough to cover the rest periods in a session.

How long does it stay cold between sessions?

Kept in its carry bag, 7+ hours at room temperature, not in active use. That is the window between leaving home and starting training. For longer windows, refrigerate on site if possible.

Can I use ice packs instead?

No. Holding something very cold causes blood vessels in your palms to constrict, which reduces blood flow to the surface and slows heat release. KYLA Performance is engineered to hold a temperature between 13 and 15°C, cold enough to extract heat continuously, warm enough to keep blood flowing. The goal is not maximum cold. It is maximum heat transfer.

How is this different from other palm cooling devices?

Other cooling devices are built mostly to hold a temperature. We built ours to move heat.

A device like that spends its energy keeping a surface at a setpoint. That is a reasonable goal, but it caps how much heat you can actually pull out during a rest.

We went the other way. KYLA carries its cooling capacity and spends all of it on transfer. You chill it in a fridge, or a freezer if you are in a hurry, and one chill covers a two-hour session.

The trade is real and worth saying out loud. From the moment it leaves the fridge it is spending energy whether you are training or not, and it is finished after about seven hours.

What you get for that trade is more heat out of your palms per rest than anything we have measured against, with nothing to charge and nothing to wear out.

Can everyone use KYLA Performance?

KYLA Performance works with the body's natural heat release system. Most people can use it without any issues. If you have a condition that affects circulation or sensitivity in your hands, check with a healthcare professional before use. Avoid use on injured, numb, or broken skin.

Can I cancel my pre-order?

Yes, anytime before shipment, for a full refund. No questions, no fees. After delivery, you have a 90-day money-back guarantee. You are notified directly if anything changes about the timeline.
